Week 4 Routes and Roll Call

Although the snow made last week’s pullback run more of a workout than expected, this week we push forward to 14+ miles for the marathon trainers and back to 7 miles for the half marathon trainers. The maps are up from the fall, I’ll be updating the format and adding a mid-distance route, but expect to work from this basic route. For those running the full route, note the loop around Ell Pond… not much fun but part of the original Melrose Half Marathon Route so I’ve kept it there for nostalgic reasons.

Mike MacNeil has volunteered to help with the water stop. Mike, let me know if you plan on running too.  This route is very similar to two weeks ago, and can be done with a single water stop but if anyone wants to volunteer to help add optional “rolling water stops” along the way (at the Zoo and/or Grimsby’s) I’m sure the extra stops will be put to use.

So time for the roll call. Who’s in and how far would you like to run if the current routes don’t suit your fancy.

Jim, I wont be running. I will meet at Breuggers before the run. Do you have a recomendation on the amount of water/gatorade to bring?

I’m in for however many miles I can fit in until 10:30. Have a family committment at 11:30, so I think that will give me enough time to clean-up. See you at 8:00.

    A few route comments:

The route maps have been updated to PDFs so they are easier to print.

Full route runners start with a loop around Ell Pond. That loop is 1.3 miles. If you want to run less you can skip that loop.

Short route runners DO NOT start with a loop around Ell Pond. You can add 1.3 mile loop by doing it to make an 8.4 mile run.

If you want to modify the short loop by running around Spot Pond the long way to Pond St instead of the short way that will add about 2.5 miles to the route distance.

There was a group looking to do between 5 and 6 miles. The only options I can think of are: start out W Wyoming instead of LynnFells and meet up with us at Grimsby’s, or drop your car off at Grimsby’s then carpool to Brueggers, run the 7.1 mile run but end at Grimsby’s (cutting off the last mile of the route).

  13. BRIAN GILROY says:

I will be there for the long run. I have to burn some calories before eating a bunch of crap and drinking beer during the PATS game.

  14. Joanne Piper says:

I’ll be there and plan to do about 10 miles. I’ll doublecheck the map, but Sue and I might just go down Pond St and back to Brueggers after passing the zoo.

  15. Ed Torres says:

Jim, I’m all in…uh, wrong weekend. Shooting for the whole thing.

    See you at 8.

  16. Brian Slater says:

I hope to make it–probably for a modified short route

  18. Jim says:

Oh, Mike…. Over the past few weeks Rick and I have put together an ample supply of gatorade and water. All you need to do is show up and we’ll move stuff from my trunk to yours.

  19. Donna Leggiero says:

I am planning on the 7.1.

  20. Tracy says:

I’ll be there and running the full 14!

  21. Rick Collette says:

    Hello All,

I plan to set up a “mobile water stop” at Straw Point (north end of Spot Pond) in case anyone might need a little “pick me up” or if they are heading back after passing the 9 mile mark.

    Rick
