Week 3 – Warm weather ahead

The forecast is looking good for this week’s weather, at least on Sunday Morning. The little weather thingy on the side panel of the blog is broken (an unannounced change in the website host’s configuration) but the low on Sunday is supposed to be 38 degrees. It seems like 2 months since the high has been that high!

This Sunday is the planned run up and around Lake Quannapowitt that we did a few weeks ago in the freezing cold. We did that run then due to the ice at Breakheart. We might make up for missing Breakheart by heading there this weekend, but it will depend on how icy the place is. Odds are we’ll stay with the scheduled route to the lake.

Water stops, there’s one planned, near Nick’s Pizza at the corner of Nahant and Main St in Wakefield. Barry will probably be handling it, although Trevor has offered as well. So I’ll coordinate with one of those two and meet them at Brueggers.

Speaking of water stops, remember to donate your $2 if you’re running the full route and $1 for the short route. We won’t be chasing you around for the money but be aware it is needed to supply the water stops.

That’s about it for now. I’ll let you know if I decide we can give Breakheart a shot.

Who’s in? Roll Call…

I’m in, and looking to do 14-15. Not at all opposed to Breakheart if the conditions are right.

I will be missing this one. I am signed up to run the Derry 16M run on Sunday….using it as a long run with HILLS! Have a great run everyone!

  8. I’m in for breakheart if not I’ll start early and do a few extra and
    catch up along the lake.

Hope to see you all in the am.

  9. Linda Ford says:

I’m in. I am doing the long run, but may run a little before and after.

Hi Peeples.. I just ran the outer loop starting from VOC. If bare pavement was an “A”, today was a “C” – not too bad with midday sun. They plowed a swath of about four feet wide. There are narrow bare spots, hard-packed uneven ice, packed, hard snow, etc… lots of uneven surface from bootheels, but even so with all of that, the surface is granular, and CCW from the VOC into the hills is very nice – just packed snow. I didn’t go to Lake Q, but want to stop at REI today. I’m shy of running Lynn Fells on the road so I might just park at Breakheart and loop it until I’m sick of it (if the SLR heads to Breakheart).

  11. Catherine Kane says:

Hi, I’m in for the shorter route. Do you need me to do a water stop?

  12. Nick Lamberti says:

    I hope to be there!

  13. Judi Chiavetta says:

I’ll be there but not sure the distance. It will be a surprise…..to me anyway 🙂

  14. Carol Carstensen says:

I’ll be there – see you all tomorrow.

  15. Jim says:

From Dave’s assessment and my feeling that there was some melting and glazing over going on today, I’m still a bit nervous about bringing people through Breakheart. There’s supposedly some warming coming up this week so maybe we’ll get there soon but for now I suggest we stick to the Lake loop. Unless there’s a strong push otherwise, that’s the plan.

BarryP did you want to do the stop tomorrow, otherwise I’ll tap Trevor for some help.

  16. Brian Gilroy says:

I have a calf strain and unable to do much running right now. I hope to be back with you guys soon. I really miss these runs. Jim, I am available for the water stop. I will check back later to see if I am needed. Have a great run.

Ok, no word from BarryP. Whoever (Brian, Trevor, Barry) calls it first on this board gets to be the helper! (And I hope one of you call it)

  21. Joanne Piper says:

Decided to run near home tomorrow @ 9:30, but I bought 2 giant bags of long run favorites- mini snickers, twix, etc. I’ll leave them in the car til next time. Enjoy your runs!

  22. Christina Antico says:

I’ll be there for the full run!

  26. Hi everyone,
    Just wanted to share something.
This am I started out from my house down to lake Q- I wanted to do 2 loops then meet at the water stop. Also to see Brian (hope he’s better soon). I was too early and missed seeing anyone so I continued on towards home doing the hills I wanted. As I went along I realized how much I enjoy our Sunaday runs. Its really great knowing that there are a group of people around supporting you without anyone really knowing. You can be alone or with someone exchanging running stories or just takling about how you week was. However, the best part is when you finally reach the green awning and there is a smiling face or a hand waving you on and of course the ultimate high five!
I hope to see you all next sunday. Stay warm and have a great week
Oh, thanks for allowing me to be a part of MRC
